Coaches’ And Leaders’ Development Programme

Exeter Canoe Club appreciates the significant efforts volunteer coaches and leaders put in. In recognition, the Club runs a Development Programme for paddlers who are regularly coaching or leading. If you want to take advantage of the support listed below, first get approval from your section’s lead coach. By ‘regularly coaching or leading’ we mean you are committed to coaching on at least one set of five sessions during the following year, or leading at least five club trips away from the club. If the subsidy is £500 then the requirement is ten club trips away from the club over a two year period.  If the subsidy is £750 for a coach award then the requirement is ten coaching sessions.  All our coaches and leaders are expected to help build standards by sharing their knowledge and experience with other club members. You are also expected to help out with the administration that backs up your grant application process, and with any administration related to British Canoeing’s record keeping on coaches.

  • The Club occasionally provides internal training courses that help leaders build their skills.
  • If you pass a Coach Award assessment, the club will reimburse the cost of training and assessment to a maximum of £750.  Candidates who have completed core coach and discipline training and completed five coaching sessions and are committed to completing their qualification may request an interim payment.
  • If you pass the British Canoeing Moderate Water Leader or the Advanced Water Leader assessments, the club will reimburse the cost of training and assessment, to a maximum of £500.
  • If you pass the British Canoeing Paddlesport Leader or BC Paddlesport Instructor assessment  the club will reimburse the cost of training and assessment, to a maximum of £300.
  • The Club will pay for a British Canoeing approved Safeguarding and Protecting Children course every three years.
  • You can attend one Club-organised white water safety and rescue course at half price.
  • You may be entitled to a contribution to other continuing professional development costs, subject to prior approval from your lead coach.
  • The Club will subsidise an appropriate first aid course every three years.
  • The Club will subsidise 50% of the cost of a VHF licence.
  • The Club will provide you with a basic First Aid kit.
