Welcome to Exeter Canoe Club

Welcome

Exeter Canoe Club is a well established BCU (opens in a new Window) affiliated club based on the historic quayside in Exeter.

We are a large club and are involved in most aspects of canoe and kayaking. Marathon and sprint racing are an important part of the club activities and we can boast a number of past and present international paddlers amongst our ranks. Recreational kayaking is not sidelined however, and club members regularly take part in whitewater, surf-kayaking, sea-kayaking and open boating; either individually or on club trips. Look at the Discipline section for more information and calender of events.

We have a wide range of boats and other equipment for use by club members stored in our boat house on the quayside. The quay opens onto the River Exe and the Exeter Ship Canal offering a wide range of opportunities for racing, placid water and 3 wiers for all year round playboating. The Exeter Water Sports Association, consisting of ECC, Exeter Rowing Club and Exeter Sub Aqua Club, has it's clubhouse on the same site, which hosts a bar and changing rooms with hot showers. To find out where we are based please visit the Location section.

The club offers a variety of training from beginners to more experienced paddling and coaching. Visit our Training section for more information.

RECREATIONAL PADDLING

The dark evenings are with us once more which means the regular Tuesday evening coaching sessions have come to an end. However  this does not mean that everyone has gone into hibernation. There are still many paddlers getting out and about.

On Tuesday evenings there are quite a number going out in touring or racing boats doing longer paddles for fitness. The canal and estuary take on quite a different perspective in the dark.

Pool sessions are as popular as previous years and run on Friday evenings at the Northbrook Pool from 7pm to 8pm. The next sessions are fully booked but we shall be running to the end of March so keep an eye on the weekly emails for available places.

Most weekends there are club trips, mostly white water orientated at this time of year on our local rivers dependant on water levels. So far this year there have been trips on the Exe and Dart. Future trips are planned on the Teign in the next couple of weeks and there will also be further trips on the Exe,Dart and Tavy. Many trips are geared to introducing paddlers to basic white water skills just watch the emails for details.

For those who don't  like the thought getting wet there is a group meeting most Saturdays at the club at 2pm for a gentle paddle on the canal or estuary.
