Interested in joining but, want to be sure paddling is going to be for you?
Exeter Canoe Club offers you the opportunity to come along for up to three taster sessions before becoming a member. It’s a great way to get an idea of whether you like paddling and, gives you the chance to meet and talk to club members in a relaxed environment, with a coach on hand to help you with equipment and provide safety cover and advice. If you are not sure about sitting ‘inside’ a kayak then the club also has both sit-on-top kayaks and open canoes for you to try.
Taster sessions are held on Saturday afternoons, throughout the warmer months of the year, if you are interested in recreational paddling. If you are interested in trying racing kayaks then this is possible on Saturday mornings all year round. Please contact the membership secretary to arrange as this makes sure we have someone looking out for you when you arrive. In order to go on the water you will need to fill in a visitors form and sign the consent section (or parental consent if the paddler is under 18). Please give the completed form to the coach supervising your session, who will pass them on to the membership secretary.
After three taster sessions you will need to sign up for full membership. We hope you like the club and, continue to paddle with us!
Family and friends
As a paid up member you also have the opportunity to take up to three friends or family on up to three paddle sessions.
Launching from the club, the paddling area is the canal and the Exe between Flowerpots and Trew’s Weir (map). Again, your guests might be more comfortable in the club’s open canoes or sit-on-tops if they are inexperienced paddlers.
As above, all the guests will need to complete and sign a visitors form.
Obviously, the responsibility for safety is down to you! If your guests take to paddling and, would like to do more, then full membership is required. Rates for additional family members are available, see our membership options.
